Allegory Of The Cave - Our reality changes and can be changed based on what is displayed to us and it can be restricted.
Time dilation - Reality distorts with time, it speeds up and slows down depending where I am, Welcome to a black hole or home, Does the future even exist? You travel into the future at home as time changes speed, are we left here forever?
This image taken by me by setting a setup, displays an individual subject using a virtual reality headset in a confined area, they appear to be in a dimly lit room, The nature wallpaper on the screen of the laptop could link to the allegory of the cave and that the subject is viewing this landscape to escape their own reality which appears to be locked away, The clocks in the back symbolise the distortion of time when our reality is changed by natural and artificial ways.
Does this object symbolise us as a whole? us following orders? Is that object real or a hallucination?
Does the outside world actually exist or is it a higher dimensional self communicating with us?

Also there are some amazing photographers that use close up
The reason why we called the group Blog Morpeth Photography Movement is that it is only when you start to work to make things to engage with thought that your work progresses as one thing leads to the next ...this is starting to happen Harman
Mr C
just thought the plato's cave relates big time to photography and the camera obscure ---- check out https://www.irequireart.com/blog/2019/02/14/contemporary-photographers-and-the-camera-obscura-by-laura-gardner-heyrman/
ReplyDeleteHi Harman- how great to see some work. Both these photos are visually rich with a lot of potential for exploration. To examine and question the strange quality of time - during lockdown but also in more familiar times is interesting. Its very much dependent on our emotional state- when I’m absorbed in making my art work the day disappears in a flash but when the task is tedious time is slow. We are spending more of our time alone (especially young people) where there becomes a blur between whats fantasy and whats the more concrete, objective ‘reality’. Computer games very much create this space- they create an immersive ‘space’ that we sometimes disappear into. Try and take more more shots- experiment with light/colour/objects- creating this other ‘reality’.

ReplyDeleteHi Harman,
ReplyDeleteYou always have really complex ideas which perplex the audience and lead us to ask questions. I think you set the bar quite high in complexity of your work and the meanings behind it.
I dont know whether you like the abstract approach in your work but your work reminds me of: Dali's persistence of memory - the melting clocks.
In some way if you are carrying this on could you show that despite time being a normal thing, different people can have different perceptions of it. - eg its slow or fast kind of like the effects of cannabis on the brain and how users report that time for them slows down but for everyone else around them it is "regular".
If you were to move somewhere which doesn't have the same time zone your body clock would be out of sync with the normal there and makes the person feel disorientated.
If you want you could do something like that
Hope something helps
This is brilliant ..right direction !! Love it
